The area out here in Calgary known as Marda Loop reminds me of my ol' stompin' ground back in Toronto; so every once in awhile when I need a fix it's a good place to check out to get my yuppie roots back in check.
Out yesterday with a girlfriend of mine saw me driving my Volvo (remember, I did say I was yuppy-fied) out to Marda Loop for pedicures. Of course, you never JUST have a spa trip, so we hit the Starbucks for caffeine fix before becoming one of those Blackberry totin', Starbuck's carrying, Saturday strollers...
Marda Loop isn't a large to cover, you can walk the main area in a couple of hours - with shopping. For the most part the shops are pretty run of the mill things you would expect to see - florists, accessories stores, a smattering of restaurants, video shops and the like. One place, set itself apart from everywhere else; the name alone had me intrigued. "Murmur: Trend Forward Gifting."
What the hell is Trend Forward Gifting?
As obvious as curiosity killing the cat, we had to go in and I was mildly surprised. It is very much like the stores I would expect to see back in the Bloor West Village, full of unique items for men, women, children and the home. I ended up picking up a belt and a bracelet from Escama (I think I might head back at some point for one of their laser cut scarves) and my girlfriend grabbed a white STORM London messenger bag.
I think this is going to become one of those stores that I head to for gifts that I know the recipient won't have. I guess that's the definition of Trend Forward Gifting.
Tootles!

EDIT: Today, Tuesday, Sweetspot.ca posted their own review of Murmur. Click on the logo above to read it for yourselves. (Ha! I beat them! I love it when I find things first!)
